Prepare the Tiller: Before starting, check all nuts and bolts for tightness. Ensure fuel and oil levels are adequate according to the engine's manual.
Start the Engine: Engage the choke (if applicable) and use the recoil starter to manually start the diesel engine, following the specific instructions in the engine manual. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes at idle speed.
Engage the Driveline: With the engine running smoothly, slowly engage the clutch lever to transfer power to the tilling blades or wheels. Be prepared for the tiller to move forward once engaged.
Select the Gear: Use the gear shift lever to select the appropriate speed. Use a lower gear for tougher soil or initial passes, and higher gears for lighter soil or faster tilling. The reverse gear is useful for maneuvering and backing out of tight spots.
Operate the Tiller: Grip the handlebars firmly and guide the tiller in a straight line. Adjust the tilling depth and width as needed based on soil conditions and desired outcome. Overlap each pass slightly to ensure complete coverage.
