Nutritional Benefits : Milling at home allows users to retain more nutrients compared to commercially processed flours, which often lose vitamins and minerals during storage and processing.
Usage
:
Step 1 : Choose a safe location
Place the mill on a flat, stable surface to ensure it doesn’t vibrate during operation. Ensure there’s enough clearance above and around the unit for easy access and airflow.
Step 2 : Clean the Mill
Before its first use, it's essential to clean your stone flour mill. Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth and check for any dust or debris inside the grinding chamber. You can run a batch of old or cheap grain (such as rice) to clean the stones further, which will remove any residue.
Step 3 : Prepare Your Grain
Use whole grains suited for milling, such as wheat berries, spelt, rye, or even gluten-free grains like oats or corn. Ensure the grains are clean and free from any foreign particles or dirt.
Step 4 : Add Grain into the Hopper
Pour the prepared whole grains into the hopper (the top compartment) of the mill. Make sure not to exceed the manufacturer's recommended capacity.
Step 5 : Start Grinding
Turn on the machine and let it run. Be prepared for some noise as the stones grind the grains. Most mills will have a safety feature that prevents overheating, but if you notice excessive heat, pause and let it cool down.
Step 6 : Collect the Flour
The freshly milled flour will exit the mill through a chute at the bottom. Collect the flour in clean, dry containers. It's best to use glass or food-grade plastic containers that can be sealed to maintain freshness.
Maintenance :
Regular Cleaning : After each use, clean the mill internally. Empty out any leftover flour and dust, and wipe down the stones if necessary.
Check for Wear : Over time, the grinding stones may wear down. Check the manufacturer's guidelines for how often you need to replace them.
Avoid Moisture : Store your mill in a dry environment, as moisture can damage the internal components and affect the grinding quality.
Refer to the Manual : Always refer to the manufacturer’s manual for specific instructions, maintenance tips, and safety precautions.
